I take your privacy as seriously as I take my own. This page is to inform you as to how ericlippert.com collects and uses personal information.

  • This site uses WordPress blogging software, which can log information about your IP address. I use this data for debugging and spam identification purposes. I do not share this data with any third party.
  • When you post a comment on this site or create a user account, WordPress logs your email address. I do not share your email address with any third party.
  • I use Google Analytics to log information about what pages are being hit most often, where traffic is coming from, and so on, so as to help me understand my audience better. I do not share this analysis with any third party, but I get it from Google. Ask Google if you want to know how analytics data is used within Google.
  • This site is hosted by Register.com's hosting service; Register.com might also be logging your IP address for their own purposes; I wouldn't know. Ask Register.com if you want to know what information they collect and share when you visit a site hosted by them.
  • This site uses "cookies" -- small data files stored locally on your computer -- to save information about your preferences when using this site.

    That's a bit misleading considering you do publish the md5 hash of the email address. You might want to update that part to clearly state that hashed emails are published.

    It's often possible to recover an email address from that, by guessing enough plausible email addresses. For example I managed to guess 27k email addresses of stackoverflow users.
